Ever plan part of a trip around food?Today, 9:41 AM
Every time my wife and I drive some 500 miles to northern California to visit friends and family we plan some of our stops around certain restaurants because you just can't find certain thingfs anywhere but where your going. Ever do the same?

For example there's Max's Cafe (only in the Bay Area) for lunch and OMG desserts. Road Runner Burrito, because I just can't seem to find a burrito that I love like those ones. There's Easy Street Cafe for the breakfast potatos. These are places in Marin that there is no equivilant in Los Angeles so we try to fit at least 2 of those and sometimes certain places in San Francisco every time we come north.

So do you plan certain stops when you're traveling to certain places just because of the food/restaurants that happen to be there and no where else?

  • Pretty much all the time. It is what I plan all my trips to WDW around and I will be posting my food reviews for Pasadena/South Pas frvom this week. Anyplace I can get Fois Gras is a good time.
    • oh good we're always looking for good eats here in So. Cal. After all this time i still don't know the landscape.
      • I did that once with three male friends I worked with. We were taking a rest from working on the company website. They told us to take the day off and go have fun and gave us 100 bucks each to have fun. It was a cold rainy day so we headed west to the coast, started at Long Beach and stopped periodically at little beachside food joints to sample the clam chowder all the way down to San Diego we went - stopping here and there to try the clam chowder.

That was one of the best and oddly enough one of the more romantic beach trips I ever had .... and the strangest thing was I was NO WAY sexually involved with any of those three guys, but I adored them terribly.

Nothing like curling up on a diner chair somewhere in view of the beach, ocean or a marina with three good friends and quietly sharing a hot steamy bowl of clam chowder and watching the rain together.

some of it was good, some of it was bad, some of it was sandy, some of it had TONS of clams, some didn't have clams at all and had simply had someone swipe a clam thru the water for 'flavoring'. It was interesting and awesome!
  • Oh, you want good eats in South Pas???? Go to Gerlach's. It's strictly take out, but they have the best Shish Kabob I have ever had in my life!!! I think it is on Lake, right next to Gerlach's Liquor store.

Personally, I am looking forward to getting back home and hitting up Gerlach's, El Pollo Loco, The Empanada Palace (Culver City), Johnnie's Pastramis and Cantor's!!!! Oh, and Jack in the Box. The closest one here is in freaking St. Louis!!!
